3rd International Yoga Day Celebration at IIAS

The 3rd International Yoga Day celebrated at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study Rashtrapati  Nivas, Shimla. The pre yoga day sessions were also conducted during 14-15 June 2017. The Fellows, IUC Associates Officers, and staff members, CPWD Officers, Deepak Project Officers, HP State Governments Officers, with family members have attended this event. The IIAS has invited AYUSH Mantralay Certified Yoga faculty members Smt. Sarika Ahuja, and Ms. Seema Sharma, from the Art of living foundation Shimla Unit. The lecture was delivered in bilingual for the convenient of the Fellows from Non Hindi States.  

Elaborative arrangements were made by the Administration ahead of the day. The 3rd International yoga day celebrations started at the Institute Main Building sharply at 6.00 AM, the Chairperson IIAS Governing Body was the chief guest for this event. The programme was processed as per the protocol of the Government. The inaugural was made by Chairperson. The Yoga session followed after the inaugural.  After Yoga Session, Smt. Sarika Ahuja (Yoga faculty) delivered a lecture on the importance of Yoga and its impacts on the daily life. She shared that the true essence of yoga revolves around elevating the life force or ‘Kundalini’ at the base of the spine. It aims to achieve this through a series of physical and mental exercises. At the physical level, the methods comprise various yoga postures or 'asanas' that aim to keep the body healthy. The mental techniques include breathing exercises or ‘pranayama’ and meditation or ‘dhyana’ to discipline the mind. She stated that the ultimate goal of yoga is, however, to help the individual to transcend the self and attain enlightenment. Quoting Gita she says, “A person is said to have achieved yoga, the union with the Self, when the perfectly disciplined mind gets freedom from all desires, and becomes absorbed in the Self alone.”  She concluded that in the modern hectic life practicing Yoga only the only solution to get rid of the hurdles.

Professor Chandrakala Padia, Chairperson Governing Body, IIAS also spoke on the occasion. While addressing stated that the Yoga Day is an importance event and great move by the Modi Government and one must practice yoga in day today life this enable to lead a healthy and rich life. The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Shri Prem Chand Secretary IIAS.
